Size 190 x 181 cm The painting features a black metal frame. It shows the signature both on the back and the right bottom side. ******** Giuseppe Martinelli (Viareggio, January 19, 1930 - Milan, July 15, 2016) was an Italian painter.The first solo show was in his hometown in 1953, and in the same year he won the Viareggio Prize. In 1956 he moved to Milan, sharing a studio in via Procaccini with Scapaticci, Ferroni, Banchieri and Luporini ; in 1958 he exhibited at the Pagani gallery in Milan, with a presentation by Mario De Micheli. In 1959 he won the purchase prize at the Golfo della Spezia painting prize with a work that became part of the collection of the Modern and Contemporary Art Center of La Spezia , he was awarded ex aequo (with Nikos Kessanlis) the V Modigliani Prize , with the work Ragazzi nell'acqua and finally won the Suzzara Prize, with the work Construction of the house . In 1963 he exhibited in Rome at the Penelope gallery, presented again by De Micheli, and the following year he won the Ramazzotti Prize with the painting Child in the flowerbed, which became part of the Ramazzotti collection. In the same year he participated in two international collective exhibitions organized by the Rome Quadrennial: Contemporary Italian Paintings, held in Melbourne (Australia) and Peintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui, a traveling exhibition with stops in Damascus, Ankara, Tehran and Tunis. In 1965-66 he exhibited at the IX National Quadrennial of Art in Rome . In 1976 he was again awarded the Suzzara Prize . Exponent of existential realism , in his activity in Milan he combined the Tuscan landscape with the tradition of Lombard naturalism . He was touched by the informal current but he also adhered to an expressionist figurative style. His works are kept in the Museo della Permanente in Milan, in the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia and in the MAGI '900.

En 1956 se trasladó a Milán, compartiendo estudio en via Procaccini con Scapaticci, Ferroni, Banchieri y Luporini ; en 1958 expuso en la galería Pagani de Milán, con presentación de Mario De Micheli. En 1959 ganó el premio de compra en el premio de pintura Golfo della Spezia con una obra que pasó a formar parte de la colección del Centro de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de La Spezia , fue galardonado ex aequo (con Nikos Kessanlis) con el V Premio Modigliani , con la obra Ragazzi nell'acqua y finalmente ganó el Premio Suzzara, con la obra Construcción de la casa . En 1963 expone en Roma en la galería Penélope, presentado de nuevo por De Micheli, y al año siguiente gana el Premio Ramazzotti con el cuadro Niño en el arriate, que pasa a formar parte de la colección Ramazzotti. Ese mismo año participó en dos exposiciones colectivas internacionales organizadas por la Cuadrienal de Roma: Contemporary Italian Paintings, celebrada en Melbourne (Australia) y Peintures italiennes d'aujourd'hui, exposición itinerante con paradas en Damasco, Ankara, Teherán y Túnez. En 1965-66 expuso en la IX Cuadrienal Nacional de Arte de Roma. En 1976 recibe de nuevo el Premio Suzzara. Exponente del realismo existencial , en su actividad en Milán combinó el paisaje toscano con la tradición del naturalismo lombardo . Se sintió tocado por la corriente informal, pero también se adhirió a un estilo figurativo expresionista. Sus obras se conservan en el Museo della Permanente de Milán, en la Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo de Brescia y en el MAGI '900.
