Netherlands-based designer Stephan Siepermann creates furniture and home accessories that provide elements of surprise within a highly functional context.
Born in Haan, Germany in 1975, Siepermann graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2005 and shortly after, set up his studio in Utrecht, where he designs and creates unique handmade objects and pieces of furniture. Preoccupied with the manufacturing process and always beginning with the aim of providing functionality to the end user, Siepermann is constantly exploring new approaches to assemble or utilize materials and methods in a different manner to attain new surfaces, shapes or uses. The designer frequently injects his creations with an additional element of function, entertainment or social interaction, sometimes through a clever juxtaposition of varying materials, form, and use.
Siepermann handcrafts every item in his collection—which spans storage units, desks, lighting, and accessories that are as functional as they are decorative—in his Utrecht workshop. Frequently exhibiting his creations at shows around the world, the designer’s work also includes interior projects for hotels, restaurants, and private residences.
