Studio Formafantasma. Two words, two guys, and one big show!

We have a real soft spot for Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin, the chaps behind Studio Formafantasma, so we were very excited when we heard they were having a exhibition of their work at Stedelijk Museum 's-Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands. There’s something truly brilliant about the duo’s work; rigorously researched, vastly imaginative, even whimsical at times, and yet also incredibly understandable as practical products.

Given the pair’s expressive and progressive work with materials, manipulating them to a variety of ends, it seems rather perfect that the title of the first exhibition to act as a survey of the studio’s oeuvre is Prima Materia, a term referring to alchemy and the transformation of everyday raw materials into precious goods. From the looks of it, their works have been presented beautifully, giving the pieces and collections ample space to breath while still allowing a dialogue to exist between them. If you’ve yet to catch Studio Formafantasma’s work in person, this would be a great opportunity!

The exhibition also marks the publication of Formafantasma, a new book by Lecturis, which includes contributions by Fredric Baas, Lidewij Edelkoort, Louise Schouwenberg, Alice Rawsthorn, Marco Petroni, Libby Sellers and Joana Meroz. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!
