Candlesticks in lacquered and gilded wood of the final period to the 800 and empire style with wear caused by the years and use. Please view the pictures carefully. The empire style was the exaltation of Pompeian decoration>>, argued Mario Praz, famous Italian critic, writer and essayist. It is a neoclassical style that represents a return to the past, as the architectural field is inspired in particular by the realisations made during the Roman Empire, up to the Egyptian architecture. The empire style therefore expresses a return of the essence of the classic style, as well as being heavily influenced by an even more remote past. The influence of the past is manifested, not only in architecture, but also in the furnishings, as decorations are created that recall the styles adopted by the Romans, Egyptians and Greeks. The curved lines -which characterised the previous rococo style- are abandoned and square, simpler, simpler lines are imposed. Craftsmanship gives the furniture a new structure, more compact and defined, and a more rational (and traditional) shape that enhances symmetry and proportions.
