Henri Matisse (1869 - 1954)
Woved and knotted in 500 copies by Alexander Smith in 1951, the Mimosa tapestry was based on a cardboard - cut gouache papers designed specifically designed by Matisse in 1949, with revisions in 1951. This is the only card that Matisse has achieved, and the Only weaving that he authorized during his lifetime.
This tapestry of Henri Matisse richly colored Mimosa, 1951, is filled with wonderful and warm colors of a sunset. It consists of a dark red background and bright orange with details in black, gray, yellow and blue. On the tapestry is represented a mimosa, a flower tree that thrives along the Côte d'Azur. The flowery and leafy shapes of the Matisse cutouts, combined with the woven tapestry, make it a delicious piece both in the decoration and the texture that would make a nice addition to any collection.
Created in 1951, this tapestry contains the signing woven "HM" at the bottom left and comes from the 500 edition, published by Alexander Smith and Sons, New York in a large format while the small formats have regularly made records in Salle of sales at Christies among others (12,000 euros in 2000!)
