Daniel Becker is a Berlin-based designer whose elegant lighting pieces have captured the attention of tastemakers around the world.
Born in 1983, Becker studied industrial design at Braunschweig University of Art and founded his eponymous studio in 2010. Himself and his team offer design services and innovative concepts within lighting, furniture and exhibition design, as well as consumer products and apart from designing independent pieces, they have worked with international brands such as Google, Samsung and Citibank.
With a strong focus on lighting, Daniel Becker creates minimalist suspended lamps that merge contrasting materials and textures. For example, the Emily series of pendant lamps incorporate sheet steel in gloss or matte finishes, a textile chord in a variety of colors and oak. Inspired by a work by Andreas Gursky depicting a group of islands in Thailand, it was this collection that won Daniel the German Design Award in 2019.
The designer has exhibited around the world such as Euroluce, Milan R-evolve, Stockholm furniture festival and Quasar, Light+Building, Frankfurt. The studio’s creations have also been featured in international publications such as Architectural Digest (Munich), Elle Decoration (Buenos Aires) and Dezeen.com (London).
There is something understated yet decidedly modern about Daniel Becker’s aesthetic. Each piece emits a subtle sense of innovation that ensures a welcome moment of appreciation in the present and an enduring refinement to be admired far into the future.
