Unique and custom built set of 3 Wall Panels and 2 brutalist Cabinets by the Italian sculptor Stefano d'Amico in beech and brass, signed and dated, 1974. There is not so much known about D'Amico's work apart from that he held expositions in Milan and Genova in the late 1960s and that he was a sculptor, born on Sicily. We found him in a book and his other work is also interesting and shows quite some resemblance with this work. These particular cabinets were custom made for a house in Venice, where they come from. This set of cabinets and wall panels was made with a lot of care and precision: the little beech cubes are dead straight and the strips have all been attached separately with a single nail (or two) and some glue to the bigger motherboard. Together they create a spectacle for the eye with so much to see for those who like this kind of brutalist and literally cubistic style of surface patterning. It's almost impossible to discover some sort of returning pattern or systematic order in these artworks because no system at all in the positioning of the cubes, which may squeeze a bit, (but can be very pleasant at times). Somehow, it very much resembles the bigger city landscaping with enormous building blocks and railways or rivers, giving them a brutalist twist (without the concrete) In the evening when it's darker and the cabinet are in a spotlight you will be amazed by what the city-scaping structure can do with shadows. It's very playful and it just gives them just the bit extra. The light coloured wood bounces the light off very well creating lighter and darker spaces on the total surface, making the shadow alley's a bit obscure too. There are some interesting characteristics in these cabinets such as the darker coloured stripes that run all the way down in between two lighter ones. The bottom of the sideboard is totally covered with brass. D'Amico has chosen his different colours of brown very pleasantly if you take a look at the total appearance of this piece with the darker brown on the sides and the top and the lighter brown in the front panels. If you open the sideboard a pleasant and fresh wood smell is welcoming you and you can see directly that also the inner part has been taken care after well with nice flames in the wood and made with great eye for detail, such as the closing mechanism and gold colored hinges that still work very well almost 50 years after these pieces were made. It definitely most have cost him a lot of time and effort to put this all together so Stefano d'Amico was definitely a man with a lot of patience and persistence. The panels are quite large with their two meter height (or width). Actually all panels have two handles in the back for hanging purposes but those are placed in such a way that you can only hang them horizontally at the moment. Many combination possible of course so you can adjust them the way you want. Great set for filling up a larger space and create some fresh wood tones in interesting shapes (and great acoustics!).
Conjunto único y personalizado de 3 paneles de pared y 2 armarios brutalistas del escultor italiano Stefano d'Amico en haya y latón, firmado y fechado, 1974. No se sabe mucho sobre la obra de D'Amico, aparte de que realizó exposiciones en Milán y Génova a finales de los años 60 y que era escultor, nacido en Sicilia. Lo encontramos en un libro y su otra obra es también interesante y muestra bastante parecido con este trabajo. Estos armarios en concreto se hicieron a medida para una casa de Venecia, de donde proceden. Este conjunto de armarios y paneles de pared se hizo con mucho cuidado y precisión: los pequeños cubos de haya están totalmente rectos y los listones se han fijado por separado con un solo clavo (o dos) y algo de pegamento a la placa base más grande. Juntos crean un espectáculo para la vista con mucho que ver para aquellos a los que les guste este tipo de patrón de superficie de estilo brutalista y literalmente cubista. Es casi imposible descubrir algún tipo de patrón de retorno u orden sistemático en estas obras de arte porque no hay ningún sistema en la colocación de los cubos, que puede apretar un poco, (pero puede ser muy agradable a veces). De alguna manera, se parece mucho al paisajismo de las grandes ciudades con enormes bloques de edificios y ferrocarriles o ríos, dándoles un toque brutalista (sin el hormigón) Por la noche, cuando está más oscuro y el gabinete está en un punto de mira, te sorprenderá lo que la estructura del paisajismo de la ciudad puede hacer con las sombras. Es muy juguetón y les da un toque extra. La madera de color claro hace rebotar la luz muy bien creando espacios más claros y más oscuros en la superficie total, haciendo que los callejones de sombra sean un poco oscuros también. Hay algunas características interesantes en estos armarios, como las rayas de color más oscuro que recorren todo el camino entre dos más claras. El fondo del aparador está totalmente recubierto de latón. D'Amico ha elegido sus diferentes colores de marrón de forma muy agradable si se observa el aspecto total de esta pieza con el marrón más oscuro en los laterales y la parte superior y el marrón más claro en los paneles frontales. Si abre el aparador, un agradable y fresco olor a madera le da la bienvenida y puede ver directamente que también la parte interior ha sido bien cuidada con bonitas llamas en la madera y hecha con gran ojo para el detalle, como el mecanismo de cierre y las bisagras de color dorado que todavía funcionan muy bien casi 50 años después de que estas piezas fueran hechas. Definitivamente, le costó mucho tiempo y esfuerzo montar todo esto, así que Stefano d'Amico era definitivamente un hombre con mucha paciencia y persistencia. Los paneles son bastante grandes con sus dos metros de altura (o anchura). En realidad, todos los paneles tienen dos asas en la parte trasera para colgarlos, pero están colocadas de tal manera que, por el momento, sólo se pueden colgar en horizontal. Hay muchas combinaciones posibles, por supuesto, para que puedas ajustarlos como quieras. Un gran conjunto para llenar un espacio más grande y crear algunos tonos de madera fresca en formas interesantes (¡y una gran acústica!).
