Dutch designer Jackie Villevoye launched the fashion and textiles brand Jupe by Jackie in 2010 in Breda, the Netherlands. Inspired by a 2010 trip to India, during which she encountered a group of master embroiderers in Uttar Pradesh—a province known for a long history of traditional, artistic embroidery—Villevoye began a collaboration that same year with the craftsmen, driven by a desire to promote and support their traditional handicraft. As of this writing, Jupe by Jackie employs over one hundred master embroiders from Uttar Pradesh who expertly and intricately execute her designs. The collection includes clothing for women, men, and kids, as well as accessories, and is sold in high-end boutiques around the world, including Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in New York, and Corso Como in Shanghai and Milan.
In January 2017 at Maison&Objet in Paris, Jupe by Jackie launched a home-focused line called Jupe by Jackie Home, which consists of hand embroidered cushions, poufs, and original artwork. Jupe by Jackie Home's collection is completely free from mechanical production and offers a unique, made-to-order experience, allowing customers to choose their personal design and color preferences.
In addition to its own collection, Jupe by Jackie also collaborates with a select group of high-end partners. Notably, in 2012, while exhibiting at the Tranoï tradeshow during Paris Fashion Week, Jupe by Jackie caught the eye of Comme des Garçons’s creative director, Rei Kawakubo. That same year, Jupe by Jackie began a partnership with Comme des Garçons, providing embroidery designs for the atelier’s ready-to-wear women’s collections. Jupe by Jackie also has collaborations with German denim brand Closed, Japan’s United Arrows, and Drake’s of London. Most recently, in fall 2017, Jupe by Jackie exhibited at the advertising agency …,staat in Amsterdam and began collaborations with fashion brands 100 HANDS and Bonne Amsterdam.
